puppy throwing up after eating rawhide

(Tanner)

My puppy is 3 months old and I gave him a nylabone puppy rawhide.

He threw up twice tonight. Will he be okay?

Hi Sam
The Nylabone puppy rawhides are designed to be eaten and are fully digestible so the normal dangers you would associate with rawhide dog chews don't really apply here.

There are many 'edible' chew toys on the market and although they're generally fairly safe, they can upset a puppy's tummy. After all it's something they're not used to eating.

As your pup has vomited a couple of times he's probably got most of what he ate out of his digestive system one way or the other, so I don't think he should have any lasting problems with it. I'd just recommend NOT giving him one of those particular chew toys again as they obviously don't agree with him!

Although chances are he'll be no worse for the experience, if he continues to vomit, has repeated episodes of diarrhea (one loose stool or so is probably likely though) or is constipated, or seems to be unwell in any way, don't hesitate to get him to your veterinarian to make sure everything is okay.

Hope this helps, best of luck with your puppy.
