puppy toilet training

I have just picked up my 9wk old staffy female puppy, the breeder told me he had been working with the puppies too toilet train them, but i am pleasantly surprised too see she has gone all night without needing the toilet, but is this normal?

I have always had dogs normally picked them up a lot younger than 9wks, i take food up at 7pm and water at 9pm as have an older dog too, i let her out at 10pm and then she holds it all night until 7am, I let her sleep in a crate unlocked in a confined area of the kitchen, I do not go into her at night as i personally feel with 20yrs of dog owning experience that this unsettles them and makes them more prone too try too get your attention at nights,i do put pads down but she just tears them up!!

She is full of life eating and drinking well, but people keep saying it isn't usual she is very clean and i am extremely consistent with her when it comes too potty training as home all day

Any advise would help
Michelle

Hi Michelle
Puppies are like babies, some sleep through the night early on (unfortunately, even with 6 children I never got one of those!), and others sleep in fits and starts for what seems like forever.

Personally I'd say trust your instincts and don't look a gift-horse in the mouth :) In all seriousness, it sounds as though you may simply have a calm pup, who has good control of her bodily functions... and early help from the breeder could well have made a big difference here.

Of course, it's early days, and as you've got plenty of experience with puppies and dogs you probably already know that with little ones, change is the only thing that's constant! Like most puppies she'll have 'good' days and not-so-good ones, but as long as she seems happy, healthy and active I wouldn't worry about her being too clean.

Hope this helps to put your mind at rest, best of luck with your pup. Staffy's are great dogs!
