Puppy vomited 4 times within 1/2 hour?

by Michelle
(Australia)

Hi, my 12 week old puppy was fine and happy all day, he had his dinner around 6pm and took him for a walk like we always do. Then around 8pm he suddenly threw up, looked like his dinner and a bit of grass and mucus.

He seemed uncomfortable and restless, then threw up smaller amounts of food etc another 3 times shortly after.

He now seems very lethargic and sick looking but hasn't thrown up since and I tried to get him to drink some water but he's not interested.

My question is, should I take him to the vet or if not how long should i wait till i should be concerned?

Hi Michelle
I remember Jye from the photo contest, he's absolutely gorgeous!

If in doubt with a puppy of this age I would definitely recommend taking him to your veterinarian just as soon as possible.

It could be that he's eaten something that upset his tummy - puppies tend to think everything is edible until proven otherwise! This may or may not be a serious problem depending on what he ate, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

There's also the possibility that he has contracted an illness or disease, and in that case the sooner he's diagnosed and treatment started, the better his chances of a full recovery. Although he has likely had at least one set of shots, maybe two, he is still at risk.

Overall, I'd definitely recommend having your veterinarian examine him, it's just not worth the risk of a 'wait and see' scenario.

Best of luck, hope this little guy is feeling much better soon.
