puppy vomiting, change in breathing

by diora diamond
(sacramento ca)

11 wk rat terrier mix, 1st shots, vomiting substance, harsh jerky breathing, often holding head stretched upright.

left him w/ 10yr old son & sitter, neither of which could explain what happened other then he just started throwing up and would not get down from couch much less play.

prior to leaving I took him potty and he ran & played .

my first thought was parvo, but he is throwing substance not foamy bile.
second thought is chocolate. son knows chocolate is forbidden can kill but his vomit made me go look and candybars have been gotten into.

PLEASE HELP, DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO..

Hi Diora
Your pup needs help, professional veterinary help, and he needs it now!

It's not extreme to say that chocolate can kill dogs, it can and does do just that. In a young, small breed pup like this it won't take much to cause serious illness or even be fatal. See my
Poisonous Foods page to find out more about common every-day stuff that can be toxic to dogs.

Please get your pup to the vet immediately. Even if ingesting chocolate isn't what is causing his symptoms, he's definitely not well and needs a professional evaluation.

I wish you the best of luck and hope your little guy makes a full recovery.
