We got a 10 week old boxer mix 8 weeks ago. (He's 18 weeks old) He was curious, playful, giving lots of kisses and nipping. Biting at our heels when we walk, chasing us around the yard and stealing shoes every opportunity that he could.
About 2 1/2 weeks ago he started playing less and laying around more. The last time I saw any "puppy activity" in him was 1 week ago. He just walks around and lays around. His tail is down all the time. He is eating and drinking...no vomit or diarrhea. I took him to the vet last Thurs., they did a fecal and blood test and said he's healthy...it's just his personality.
I don't believe it. He does get hiccups a lot. Occassionaly he looks like he's trying to throw up...but he doesn't. He does this thing with his tongue going in and out like a lizard. Any suggestions?
Hi
My suggestion would be to go back to the vet and insist that they take a closer look. It's good that his fecal test was negative for disease or parasites, but that doesn't rule out everything that could be wrong!
You know your pup, and as this isn't normal behavior for him then something is wrong. If your vet isn't helpful, don't be afraid to seek a second opinion. Your little guy is relying on you to get him help, so it's important to follow your instincts.
As he's eating and drinking okay and doesn't seem to have a tummy upset, but is almost gagging at times, it could be that he has something irritating his mouth or throat. There are lots of possibilities but only a vet can make an accurate diagnosis.
SOrry I can't help more, but I hope you get to the bottom of this soon so that your pup gets to feeling much better.
