My 15 week old husky has started walking around my house whining. She hasn't ever been what you would call a quiet dog, as she loves to howl and bark. But the last 2 days she will pick up a toy and walk to the side of her crate, and just sit there whining.
Her crate is open while she's not in there, so I know she has access to it when she is overwhelmed or just plain tired. She doesn't really want to play fetch or anything else with the toy, when she is whining. She has had worms, and is currently on her 3rd round of them.
Should we be concerned about the whining, is it a symptom or is it just a new thing she is doing? Any insight would be appreciated!
Hi Michelle
It's impossible to say for sure what's causing your pup to act this way, but puppies go through some very big developmental changes and these can sometimes trigger strange or unusual behaviors.
If she's simply whining and doesn't seem to be sick in any way or in distress, chances are she's just trying to communicate something to you, but what it is I don't know I'm afraid! It could be that she wants attention, or is feeling anxious or unsettled for some reason, but unless she seems unwell I doubt it's anything to be too worried about. She will most likely stop this behavior as suddenly as she started it.
I would recommend having your vet check her out thoroughly though to make sure that there's no underlying health issue causing her to be unsettled and whiny. If she gets a clean bill of health then I'd just ignore it and see if it stops.
Just one other thing I'd recommend is to make sure that she gets plenty of exercise as that helps a pup to burn off any excess energy and to deal with feelings of anxiety. As the saying goes 'a tired puppy is a good puppy'!
Hope this helps a little, best of luck with your pup.
