Puppy With Bump near Privates.

My puppy has a bump near her privates probably about an inch wide. What could this be?

Hi Cecilia
It's difficult for me to say what this lump is, but one possibility is that she has a 'hernia' (usually these aren't true hernias but simply a small area where the abdominal muscles haven't closed up properly).

This type of incomplete closure is usually around the belly-button area, but could be lower down, and if the pup is a small breed, it could look very close to her genitals.

If this isn't what is causing the lump, and it seems to be on (or within) the skin, rather than underneath it, it could be a small cyst of some sort, or possibly an infection.

All I can really do is suggest that you have your veterinarian examine your pup as soon as possible as he will be in a position to make an accurate diagnosis.

I doubt it is anything too serious, and the simple 'hernias' I mentioned above often don't cause problems, but can be easily fixed with a couple of stitches by your vet. But, it's always best to seek a vets' help when you've got a health concern, better safe than sorry.

Best of luck with your pup.
