puppy with diarrhea and blood in stool

any idea what could cause diarrhea and blood in his stool? he's had diarreh for about 12 hours only just noticed blood in the last lot.

he been eating fine and still his usual playful self although we have not fed him today to let his stomach settle.

Puppy diarrhea can be caused by lots of things, including a sudden change in diet, infection, parasites, and several dog illnesses.

As your pup seems happy and healthy apart from the diarrhea, chances are this isn't anything too serious yet, but it definitely needs to be checked out by your veterinarian.

Blood in the stools indicates irritation or inflammation of the colon/bowel, and can be caused by any of the things mentioned above, or even by a bout of diarrhea itself.

A 24 hour fast (but allowing plenty of fresh water) often clears up minor tummy upsets, but if your pup continues to have diarrhea, or gets worse, it's important that you get him a thorough check up with your vet. It's always best to err on the side of caution.
