hi my jack russell cross westie puppy keeps trying to urinate every 5-10 minutes i was just wondering if it's something to be concerned about.

she goes to the toilet properly and about 5 mins after she goes again but nothing comes away from her is this a sign of water infection?

Hi Natalie
What you're describing are classic signs of a urinary tract infection. This type of problem is actually pretty common in puppies, especially in female pups.

The most common symptom of a UTI is the frequent, and urgent, need to pee. Sometimes the pup will pee a normal amount, but many times it will only be a drop or two.

This type of infection needs to be treated with antibiotics to prevent it from traveling to other areas of the body and causing serious trouble - such as kidney problems.

I strongly recommend that you get your puppy to your own veterinarian asap for an exam and evaluation, that way he can confirm that a UTI is indeed the problem and prescribe medication to treat it.

This is probably very uncomfortable, even painful, for her in addition to being risky, so the sooner you get her some help the better.

Best of luck, hope she is doing much better soon.
