puppy with hives

My puppy just had his last vaccine(rabies) on friday.Saturday evening he woke up with hives, they are giving him lots of discomfort.

Is there anything I can give him to get rid of them.I am short on cash ,so I can't afford another trip to the vet, your help would be greatly appreciated by him.

He was born june 5 2008.he also had a pigs ear last night so that might be giving him the reaction thank-you.

Hi Cathy
The hives are more likely to be a reaction to his vaccinations than to the pigs ear. But of course it could be either.

Unless he's having problems with facial swelling, difficulty breathing, or seems unwell, I wouldn't worry about this too much. It will probably right itself within in a day or so. Do mention this to your veterinarian next time he has his shots though. He may want to monitor him afterwards.

You can give your pup some Benadryl, this may help to reduce the reaction. However, you will need to contact your vet to check on the correct dosage.

Best of luck, hope your pup is doing better soon.
