How long does it take puppies to stop breast feeding?

Normally the momma dog will start to wean her puppies when they're somewhere around 3 weeks old.

She does this by refusing to nurse them for long periods, often remaining standing while they feed. She may also get a bit 'cranky' with them and wants to spend more time away from the nest.

Sometimes she will even regurgitate some of her food to give her puppies a sort of 'baby food'.

At this point you can begin to feed them puppy food mixed with warm water and offer them water to drink. By the time they are about 6 weeks old they will most likely be totally weaned.
