Questionable boarding place

Jake

I just picked up my dog after he had been boarded at a local establishment for five days.

I noticed they had "frebreezed" (sprayed a nice scent) over him and the two toys I left with him. When I returned home to unpack the toys from his bag, I also found mouse droppings in the bag.

A good friend recommended this place and I know they recently expanded/remodeled their boarding place but am a little worried.

I had selected this place because of my friend's recommendation plus they walk the dogs 4 times a day.

Any advice would be welcome! Thanks!

Hi NancyAs long as Jake has had all his vaccinations and the boarding kennel you used required ALL boarding dogs to be vaccinated, and he seems happy and healthy enough now he's home, then even if their hygiene wasn't top notch he should be fine so I wouldn't worry too much.

However before sending him there again I'd recommend asking for a 'tour' of the facility and take a look at the areas where the dogs are kept and exercised... and where the food is kept. I'd just 'drop by' and ask for this tour on-the-spot sometime ahead of booking your dog in. Make sure everything looks clean and up to your standards. If it doesn't then simply don't board Jake there again.

Your friend who recommended the facility may not have had, or noticed, the things you did and every situation is different so you may just have been extra aware, or unlucky to have the experience you did. Either way, just check it out some more and follow your instincts.

Good luck.
