red anus's in very young bulldog puppies

Hi we have 8 day old bull dog puppies and some of them have red anus's. They are pooping fine and mother is licking. It almost reminds me of diaper rash in a baby.

Is there anything we can do to help? Is there any other cause for this? Mother is not sick, no infection and no vomiting.

It's possible that the momma is being a bit over-dedicated in her licking and is causing some irritation, or that for some reason their stools are overly acidic and this is making their bottoms sore.

I'd suggest asking your veterinarian for advice as because the momma is keeping them clean there's really no point in trying to put anything on these little puppies rear ends, she'll just lick it right off again... and maybe it will make her sick into the bargain.

The only other possibility I can think of is that it's a yeast infection or something similar, but that would need to be diagnosed by a vet.

As long as the puppies seem healthy and active, and are nursing properly, then I doubt this is a reason for serious concern, but I'd still recommend discussing it with your own veterinarian as you don't want the inflammation/irritation to get worse.
