red/irritated anus

My puppy seems to be straining when she poops. She squats but takes a long time for the poop to come out.

However she is not constipated and does not show any other symptoms. I checked her anus last night and noticed it looked red/irritated.

If she's really straining to poop but she's not a constipated puppy, she may have a localized problem perhaps hemorrhoids or something similar.

I can only suggest that you have her examined by your vet to make sure all is well. Sometimes tiny pups have immature 'elimination systems' which can lead to poor bladder/bowel control, or she may just not have strong muscle contractions when pooping. And some dogs just take their time, or even walk while pooping. They're all different.

A veterinary check up would be a good place to start though. Best of luck with your pup.
