Rottweiler puppy wheezing

by Hayley
(Baton Rouge, LA)

I have a 5 month old male German Rottweiler. He is up to date on all his shots and he is on Heartgard and Confrontis (for fleas).

Yesterday I noticed he was coughing/wheezing so hard it would make him gag. It is almost like he has something stuck in his throat. I checked and there is nothing there.

He did it a few times yesterday then did not do it again until this morning. I'm worried about him. Please help! Thank you so much

Hi Hayley
I'd strongly suggest that you have your vet examine your pup to find out what's causing your pups' wheezing.

It could be an allergy to something, and I have heard of adverse reactions to Comfortis - although not respiratory problems as yet. Of course dogs can react badly to just about any chemical that they come in contact with, and can be allergic to vaccines, plus a whole host of allergens that affect humans too. You can find out more about dog allergies and how Rottweilers in particular here.... Canine Allergies

This is not normal and if he's having difficulty breathing he needs to be evaluated by a professional, so please get him checked out by your vet asap.

I wish you the best of luck and hope he's doing much better soon.
