runny nose

Hello again , i took brandi our american bulldog to the vet last week as you suggested because of her coughing , he gave her antibiotics, anti-inflamatory injections and some tablets.

She seems a bit better but still coughs a little and has a runny nose and sneezes. Can dogs get colds like us? She seems fine in herself , eating well drinking playing and all the things doggies should do lol

Can u suggest why her runny nose and sneeezes are there thanks mick......

Hi Mick
It kind of depends on what the veterinarian diagnosed really. It sounds as though he treated her for an infection (antibiotics) and inflammation, possibly in her airways.

Dogs don't catch colds the way humans do, but they can get upper respiratory tract infections, and catch viruses such as Kennel Cough.

The fact that she seems to be doing fine otherwise - still eating/drinking/playing normally etc. - is a very good sign, and it could just be that she needs time to get over whatever was causing the problem.

The antibiotics would treat any secondary infections, but if the main problem was a virus they won't help and generally it's just a case of letting it run it's course.

I would recommend just keeping an eye on her, and if you notice that her symptoms get worse, she seems to be feeling 'under the weather', or has a change in behavior, appetite etc., then take her back to your vet for evaluation.

You've taken all the right precautions, so I wouldn't worry too much right now. She should be back to her normal self within a fairly short time.

Good luck.
