Scheduling Booster Shots For Puppy

Hi. If my puppy receives her first booster shot on 1/23/10 and her second shot 2/10/10 when is the last day she could receive the third shot. (Would 3/14 be too late?)

Thank you.

HiIt's recommended to leave 3 weeks between each set of puppy shots, but the schedule you're suggesting would most likely be fine.

The reason for the shots being given this way is that no one knows for sure exactly when a pup loses the immunity to disease that he got from his mommas' milk and if he is vaccinated while he still has enough natural immunity, the shots will be ineffective.

The goal is to vaccinate when the natural immunity is subsiding enough for the shots to take effect, but before his immunity is low enough for him to be at risk of catching one of the common, contagious dog illnesses that puppies are so vulnerable to.

As your pup will have had two sets of shots at the recommended intervals, delaying one week on the third set shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately there is no guarantee with any of this though. I'd recommend talking to your vet and asking his advice as he is in the best position to help you.

Hope this helps some, best of luck with your pup.
