Separation anxiety

My 7 month old puppy has separation anxiety. He came from the breeder at 5 months. We think that the lack of socialization (which causes bad interactions with dogs and strangers) are also caused by the long time at the breeder. We really want to help our puppy but everyone just says it takes time.
Are there steps- that people who cannot stay home with a dog everyday do to ease the process?
Hi Annie
Yes, there are quite a lot of things that you can do to help a dog with separation anxiety. A lot will depend on how severe the problem is.
I have several pages on my site with tips, information and advice on dealing with this problem, it's much more common than a lot of people realize. Take a look at these pages :-
There is lots and lots of useful information in these pages and I think you'll find several things that should help your dog feel less anxious when you're gone.
Of course, it does take time.... and patience! I think you're most likely correct as to the reason for your pup's problems, and he's young enough to be able to overcome them with lots of love and support. It won't happen overnight, but I think you have a good chance of helping him learn to be a much happier, and less stressed little pup.
Best of luck!
