Our puppy is about 13 weeks old. She has had a horribly gurgly belly that started yesterday evening. All day yesterday she was fine, ate, drank, and pottied. We put her in her crate, left the house, came home 1.5 hours later and she was released out to potty then we noticed her belly was gurgling, then she had one regular poop, then she had just yellowy slime, very tiny amount, then she acted like she needed to go again and it was clear mucus.
She won't eat and won't drink. this morning i was up with her 2 and 5, both times with slimy stuff and we coaxed her into drinking water because she hadn't had any yesterday evening.
Now it is 6 am and she is running through house playing and now eating her dog food and water. we feed her wellness brand.
Hi Sally's Mom
It sounds as though whatever was causing your puppys' tummy troubles has passed as she is now eating, drinking and running around happily.
Puppies get into everything, and it's not unusual for them to ingest something they shouldn't. When it's just 'yukky' rather than toxic they may get an upset tummy that shows the sort of symptoms you describe.
A little Pepcid (about .25cc) can help, so can 'fasting' or witholding food for 12 hours or so. Of course if a pup is feeling really sick they often won't eat anyway, but it is important that they drink and it's good that you encouraged her to take some water.
If she seems fine today and the puppy diarrhea and vomiting have stopped, then I think she should be just fine.
However, if she continues to have loose stools or to throw up, I'd definitely recommend that you have her examined by a vet asap. These symptoms can indicate illness, parasites and so on and if in doubt it's always better to get a professional opinion.
I wish you the best of luck and hope your puppy girl is doing much better.
