should i be concerned that my six and a half week old puppy does not drink water?

(Meeker,ok)

I stopped at Kmart and picked up a half border collie and cocker spaniel mix.

The lady had three litters different ages of course i picked the runt of the youngest litter. I give her puppy milk twice a day and canned puppy food she get fed every 4 to five hours. She is very tiny not even a pound yet.

I just can't seem to get her to drink water. I've tried warm water sticking her nose in a little bit putting it on my fingers with no luck. She goes to the bathroom just fine. I am just so worried this is going to be my moms puppy. I'm just foster mommy.

My family has spoiled her rotten she loves her snuggie. She even goes to work with me. I just need to know she is ok.

Hi Tamica
At 6 1/2 weeks old your puppy should be able to lap water by herself, but she is very tiny and if she was the runt it's possible that she may be a little behind developmentally, although overall it sounds as though she's doing pretty well.

If you haven't already taken her to your veterinarian for a check up I strongly advise that you do it right away. She needs her puppy shots and to be dewormed and a general check up to make sure she's generally healthy.

Your vet will be able to make sure that there's no physical reason why she isn't lapping and reassure you as to her health, age, development etc. PLUS protect her from getting sick.

It sounds as though you're taking very good care of this little one and hopefully she will get bigger and stronger soon. Just get her checked out by your vet to keep her safe and put your mind at rest.

Best of luck!
