My Siberian husky is breathing rapidly and the whites of her eyes are red.
We just bought her today and she's 11 months old. Is something wrong with her?
Hi
If you've only just got your dog, then she's probably breathing fast because she's scared/anxious.
Rapid breathing in dogs can be the symptom of many different things, including fear, aggression, anxiety, stress, pain and more. However if everything else seems normal with her then in your situation I suspect she's just stressed about this new situation.
At 11 months old she's not a baby puppy anymore and a change of enviroment/family is going to be more stressful for her than it would for, say, an 8 week old pup. However, her reactions will be similar, just maybe a bit more severe or long-lasting. You can learn what to expect during the first week or so with a new puppy on my Bringing Home A New Puppy page.
As for the whites of her eyes being red, it could just be normal for her, or she could have dog allergies of some sort, or an infection such as conjunctivitis.
I'd recommend that you have your pup examined by your own vet within the next couple of days so that you can be sure all is well with her, and also get her shots up to date (if necessary) etc.
Hope this helps, best of luck with your pup.
