Teacup Yorkie supposedly sneezing or coughing.

I recently got a 2 month old Teacup Yorkie, and I brought him home on a Saturday. Sunday the vet was closed, so we had to wait one more day to check him up. He is very energetic and playful, but he seems to cough or sneeze, or seem like he is choking a little bit every so often. It didn't seem to bother him, he would just cough and run along.

My dad and I took him to the vet for his check up and mentioned this coughing or sneezing. The vet checked him to see if he was healthy, and she said that there was nothing wrong. I still want other professionals opinion on the matter.

I was thinking that maybe the water I give him is too cold, or the house is too cold, or he gathered a little dust on his chew toys.

I appreciate your help, your word really matters.

Hi
It sounds to me as though your pup is doing something called 'reverse sneezing'. It's actually pretty common in small and tiny dogs, but is usually nothing to worry about. If your pup is otherwise healthy and doesn't have a runny nose or chest congestion, I'd be inclined to think that this is what's going on. But remember I'm not a vet and I can only give you my personal opinion.

Reverse sneezing is a sort of spasm of the trachea (windpipe) and can be brought on (or made worse) by excitement or exercise, although it can happen at any time. Generally it sounds as though the pup is coughing and sneezing at the same time and can last for a few seconds to a minute or more.

Sometimes you can put an end to a spasm by holding your fingers gently over the pups' nostrils for a second or two, or by rubbing the throat very gently. Pups usually grow out of this as they mature, but even if they don't it shouldn't cause any real problems.

Hope this helps to put your mind at rest, best of luck with your pup.
