my 7 month old pitt bull started out of the blue throwing up these large piles of what look and smell to be poop.
she does NOT eat her own poop i took her to the vet today and they gave her a shot that was supposed to stop her from throwing up and they gave me dewormer bc she thinks that's why.......my puppy was just dewormed and has thrown up two more times since we brought her home from the vet what else could be wrong with her?
Hi Jennifer
This sort of vomiting can be caused by worms, and although she's just been dewormed, it can take some time for them to clear out of her system.
Also the dewormer itself can cause vomiting and digestive upset. Usually this only lasts for a few days. The shot the vet gave her may take a little while to start working.
There are other illnesses that can cause vomiting in a puppy, including Parvo - and Pitbulls are one of the breeds who are especially susceptible to Parvo.
I would check with your vet to make sure they tested for other diseases, such as Parvo, Coccidia and so on.
If they did and the tests were negative, I would give this 24 hours and see if she's improved, if not, take her back to your veterinarian and have them re-evaluate her.
Meanwhile, you need to make sure she's getting plenty of fluids to counteract the dehydrating effect of repeated vomiting.
You can add Pedialyte or Gatorade to her water if she will drink it (the unflavored kind is usually accepted best, but some dogs like the flavors too).
However, if her vomiting gets worse, or she develops other symptoms, or you're worried about her, call your veterinarian and talk to them. It's always better to be safe than sorry with puppies.
I wish you the best of luck and hope your little girl is feeling better soon.
