Toybox's Out On A Limb (aka Twiggy)

Twiggy at her first Ice Cream Social

Twiggy was born in Jan 2007 and at the age of 9 weeks old suffered severe Low Blood Sugar (Hypoglycemia).

We lost her sibling brother just a day before, to kidney failure. We got her to come around and rushed her to the Animal Hospital which was over 1 hr. drive at 12 Midnight. She spent 10 days at the Vets Hospital with an IV in her Hip to keep her Blood Sugar Stable.

The Vet had at first thought she would have everything under control within 3 days, this was not to be. This little girl (not even 1 lb. in weight) was a fighter but her body just wouldn't function without the added support of dextrose to her diet. When she finally was able to come off the IV and maintain her sugar level we had to take her home and give her dextrose every 2 hrs. and then a week later every 4 hrs. and so on.

Now you would never know she was such a sick little puppy - she is just over 2 lbs. in weight but she rules the house and all 11 other Yorkies who live here with us.

Oh, her name came from the fact that we went Out on a Limb to Save Her Life, and she is still no bigger then a Twig...,hence Twiggy.

She is a happy and healthy 9 month old Yorkshire Terrier.
