Week Old Puppies

My Shih-tzu just had four puppies. They are a week old now and the first born twitches or jumps every so often.

Is this a sickness or is she just uncomfortable not being adapted to not being enclosed in something?

Puppies do tend to jump/twitch/wriggle quite a bit when they sleep. It's not usually a sign of a problem. It could be that if she's separated from her momma or siblings that she feels cold or uncomfortable.

As long as the momma is feeding them and taking care of them, and this puppy is warm, plump and doesn't cry a lot, then I expect everything is fine.

If you are concerned about her though, it's always best to consult a vet and be safe, rather than sorry.
