I was wondering what temperature parvo freezes in.
I had a puppy a long time ago that got parvo. She had vaccinations but still got it.
I wanted to give my puppy a walk and he hadn't had all his vaccinations and if there's parvo outside (i live in michigan so we have a lot of parvo).
I was wondering if there was a freezing point for parvo.
Hi Kristalyn
Canine Parvovirus is a very hardy virus and it can survive for long periods and is not affected by freezing temperatures.. or by extremely high temperatures either.
If your new puppy hasn't had all 3 sets of puppy shots (one or two sets isn't enough to be sure of protection), then I would strongly advise you NOT to let him go anywhere public where the Parvo virus may exist.
For some breeds, and even some individual puppies, even the 3 sets of shots isn't always enough to protect them fully, but this is thankfully rare.
As you already know, Parvo is extremely contagious and very deadly, so it's simply not worth taking any risks with your puppy's health. Keep him safely away from any public parks, streets or other areas where he could pick up the virus until he's been fully vaccinated.
Hope this helps, best of luck with your new puppy.
