When can i bath my new Rottweiler puppy?

by jackie
(liverpool)

My new puppy that i got today smells really bad, is it too early to bath her or should i let her settle into her new home for a few days.

Hi Jackie
It's best not to stress out a new puppy too much, but if she's dirty and smelly, go ahead and give her a bath. It won't do her any harm.

Just be sure to keep her nice and warm afterwards and don't let her out in the cold until she's completely dry.

Puppies have very sensitive skin so use a very mild shampoo especially made for puppies (baby shampoo will work okay in a pinch). Don't use any of the shampoos that are for fleas etc. though, they can't be used on young puppies because of the chemicals.

For tips and advice on bathing your puppy, check out our Bathing Your Puppy page.

Congratulation on your new Rottie - there's nothing cuter than those little black bears!
