why does My 5 month chihuahua have bumps?

My 5 month puppy has bumps on his head, face, and are spreading to his body. They are red and scabby.

I don't know if it's a allergic reaction. There is no swelling, and he is losing his hair. what can I do?

You need to have a veterinarian examine your pup, that's the only way to make an accurate diagnosis I'm afraid.

I'm not a vet and can't give you a definitive answer here, but there are several possibilities. Dog allergies is one of them, as hives or irritated skin and hair loss are classic signs of an allergic reaction. In these situations your pup would most likely be pretty itchy or uncomfortable.

There are many triggers for canine allergies, and flea saliva is one of them. It almost sounds as though these lumps could be bites, so unless your pup is treated regularly with a good flea and tick preventative such as Frontline Plus, I would guess that this could be your problem.

It's also possible that your pup has a skin condition called Mange. Mange in dogs is caused by tiny skin mites which cause irritation, a rash and patchy hair loss - often beginning on the muzzle/face/head and front legs or chest.

Your vet can diagnose Mange by taking a small skin scraping and looking at it under a microscope. Treatment is usually with special shampoos or dips and is effective in eradicating these mites.

There are other possibilities too, but you need your vet to evaluate the symptoms and make an accurate diagnosis.
