why does my 8 week old american bulldog drink so much water?

my puppy drinks water all the time. is this normal?

Hi
Puppies do need a fair amount of water, and they're all different so some may drink a lot more than others.

Although excessive thirst causes excessive urination which can be a problem when you're trying to potty train a puppy, never try to limit your pups water intake. I would recommend picking up his water bowl by around 7:30 pm though, so that he will need less potty breaks during the night.

In some cases, being very thirsty can indicate a health problem such as diabetes, so I would recommend that you discuss this with your vet at your pups' next check up. You want to make sure to rule out any health issues.

Sometimes the food a pup is eating can make him extra thirsty. Make sure you are feeding a premium quality puppy food, specifically designed for large breed pups. You can find out how to rate any dog food according to it's ingredients on my Dog Food Comparisons page, and info. on some of the best large breed puppy foods available on this page Best Puppy Food (applies to all large breed pups).

Overall, I wouldn't worry too much about this, but mention it to your vet to be on the safe side.
