why does my newborn pitbull puppy have sores/blisters on her chin and paws?

My female pitbull just had her puppies and they are now 5 days old, i have noticed that 3 of them have blisters or sores on their chin and on their paws i was wondering if flies can do this because i've seen many flies around them and no matter how hard i try to shew them away the come back, what should i do?

Hi Yadira
I'm afraid this is an issue you need to take to your veterinarian as I've never encountered this in a newborn puppy.

It could be infection of some sort, perhaps passed on from the momma dog. I doubt it's caused by flies, but it could certainly be made worse by the presence of these annoying insects. Flies will attack any area of skin that is damaged or any open wounds/sores.

There is a natural product called Diamataceous Earth and the food-grade variety can be safely used as an anti-parasitic and fly-deterrent. You can buy it online at www.earthworkshealth.com. Your vet may also be able to recommend other puppy-safe alternatives.

However, for now you need to address the first problem which is these sores, and I recommend that you take your puppies to be examined by your vet asap.

I wish you the best of luck and hope that they are doing much better soon.
