why is my newborn pug bleeding while pooping?
I am hand nursing my smallest of my pug litter, and noticed that while I wipe his bottom to encourage bowl movement there is some blood.

Hi Jennifer
Blood in the stools can be a sign of illness, or of inflammation/irritation in the colon.

As you don't say that this puppy seems sick at all, I would guess perhaps the formula has caused a little bit of irritation in his digestive system.

I would suggest that you discuss this with your veterinarian to be on the safe side as newborn puppies are very vulnerable to illness, especially when being hand-reared. It's always better to be safe than sorry and if your vet thinks that there could be cause for concern he/she can then examine this little guy.

Best of luck, hope he grows up healthy and strong.
