MY NEW PUPPY HAS A WATERY YELLOW LOOK. SHE SEEMS TO BE EATING OK. SHE IS 9 WEEKS OLD. A RIDGEBACK PUP.
HER STOOLS HAVE BEEN OK THE FIRST 2 DAYS. SHE SOMETIMES SHAKES AND WHIMPERS WHEN SHE IS ABOUT TO SLEEP.
SHOULD I CALL A VET OR WAIT A FEW DAYS? THANKS.
Hi Bob
It's difficult to say whether your puppy is simply stressed by the transition and possibly a change of diet, and this is an adjustment period, or whether she is actually sick.
However, with a puppy I would always recommend being safe rather than sorry, if you're concerned at all it's best to contact your vet right away. Young puppies who haven't received all their shots are at risk of several very serious dog illnesses/diseases, including Parvo.
You can check out my Puppy Diarrhea page for some tips and advice, but watery diarrhea isn't good, and could lead to dehydration at the very least.
If she seems happy and active, is eating and drinking normally and isn't suffering from vomiting, chances are this is a reaction to the stress of moving to a new home. But if she seems depressed/lethargic and the diarrhea happens more than once or twice, I would definitely take her to the vet right away.
Best of luck with her, hope she's doing better soon.
