Yorkie mom is non-stop panting

My yorkie just delivered puppies and she is eating ok but she is panting non stop.

Should I be worried.

Hi
Panting can be caused by heat, stress/anxiety, pain, illness, distress, fear or over-exertion. It's impossible to say for sure why your Yorkie is panting so hard but if she's only just given birth (especially if it's her first litter) then it's probably a combination of several of the above.

Usually the momma dog will relax and settle down to nurse the puppies once she's delivered them all and the excitement and discomfort has died down. First time moms are more likely to be stressed and anxious to begin with as they seem to be confused and a bit worried about the whole process.

If your dog doesn't settle down within an hour or two, if she seems to be in pain or distress, or if she continues to have contractions and yet doesn't produce another puppy within 2 hours, then you need to have her examined by your veterinarian to make sure everything is okay.

Best of luck with your dog and her pups.

Panting Mother Dogs NEW
by: Anonymous

My shih tzu mother started panting continuously approx three weeks after delivering her 5 puppies... oopsy middle of the night visit to the vet. Eclampsia... hypocalicimia? anyway her calcium was way low and they suggested I take them off her and bottle feed them. well I live alone and work full time so that wasnt going to work too well. Kept her off half time for three days and started giving her 1 half tums twice a day. introduced the puppies to a homemade starter milk which they wanted to lap not suck. After 3 days of that she was back with the puppies full time and actually did very well. Probably I was just lucky so my experience shouldnt necessarily be followed by others

first time yorkie mom NEW

I have an 11 month old yorkie and she's very small. she just recently had a litter of 4 but one pup did not survive. the pups seem healthy and are often really hungry but i'm concerned about the mother; she gave birth 2 days ago and she's very small in weight. she has been panting and breathing heavy while nursing. i woke her because she seemed to breathing really fast and heavy in her sleep. should i be concerned about this? I'm so afraid; maybe it's nothing, but I just don't know.
