Yorkie-Poo: shaking, moaning, & can't move

by Jessica Frazier

My little Yorkie-Poo is 10 months. He is small; 4/5 pounds. For the past couple months he has been going into these little spasms. He'll start shaking, then he starts moaning (whining softly), and then he'll just lift one of his front paws up like he is about to go into a seizure. He falls, then is unable to move.

At those moments, I give him small amounts of honey and mix some pedialyte with water. I read on a dog website to do this. It helps at the time. But this is a reoccurring thing. It makes me so sad! I want to help.

What is going on?! & how can I prevent these episodes?

Hi Jessica
I strongly recommend that you have your veterinarian examine your pup fully to figure out what's causing these 'episodes'.

The treatment you mention is for dogs who experience low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and if it helps your pup at the time then it's possible that these symptoms are being caused by blood sugar issues. Your vet should be able to help diagnose this definitively and suggest treatment that would be more long-lasting in effect.

Obviously there are other possibilities, such as epilepsy, nerve problems and so on, but again only your vet can make an accurate diagnosis.

I doubt very much this is going to improve without professional help so please get your little guy to the vet asap so that he can get the help he needs.

Best of luck with your puppy, he's adorable :)
